PERC RULES OF THE TRAIL

  • The Trail Boss and Drag Rider are ride supervisors.  For the sake of safety and comfort, they have the final say.
  • Stay on the trail between the Trail Boss and the Drag Rider.  If you need to leave the ride or trail, notify a ride supervisor.
  • If the Trail Boss is a nonmember (landowner), DO NOT ask to ride ahead.  All guidelines still remain.
  • Keep with the ride pace.  Do not race past others or lag behind.
  • Fight erosion and stay on trails (no shortcuts).
  • Do not stop on narrow trails or at the top of a steep hill until it is safe for all riders.
  • Pass on the left at a walk or trot after asking permission.
  • Maintain a safe distance between horses.
  • Be considerate at watering places.  Cross downstream of drinkers at a slow pace.
  • If your horse has a tendency to kick, tie or weave a red ribbon in the tail.
  • Stallions should have a yellow ribbon in the tail.
  • Horse abuse will result in being excused from the ride, as will ill-mannered or uncontrollable horses.
  • Horses should be tied securely, short enough to prevent a step-over or roll.  Keep reasonable distances among horses.  Tie only to a fixed object or a 6-inch or larger living tree.
  • No riding bareback.
  • No riding double
  • No ponying horses without their riders.
  • No smoking when mounted.  Filters must be carried out with the remainder extinguished and buried.
  • All refuse must be carried out.  Better yet, improve our country and carry out more than you carried in.
  • Pick up and pack out your horse manure from your trailer area.
  • For safety reasons, we ask that riders wear boots with heels – no tennis shoes
  • Dogs are not allowed on rides.
  • Members are responsible for conduct of guests.
  • All members are responsible for getting themselves and their horses to and from organized rides.
  • These events are supposed to be fun.  Please bring your manners with you.  Courtesy for other horses and riders is expected at all times.
